RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — It’s time to head back to school for everyone! We will see mainly sunny skies and it will be hot and humid today with highs approaching 90 in many areas.
A few clouds will be over the region tonight with lows near 70.
Wednesday will be another hot and humid day with highs near 90, however some scattered thunderstorms could develop in the afternoon and evening. Most of us will stay dry, but if you happen to get one of those storms you can expect a brief period of heavy rain.
A cold front will approach the region during Thursday. Out ahead of the front we will start the day off with partly sunny skies and it will be very warm and humid with highs in the upper 80s. By the afternoon and evening, some thunderstorms will develop across central Virginia with locally heavy downpours. The best time frame for thunderstorms is from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
That cold front will move out the east late Thursday night and early Friday morning allowing for clearing skies and very pleasant temperatures. Friday will be a very nice day with partly to mostly sunny skies and highs in the middle 80s. As we look at Friday night, there is a chance of a few isolated thunderstorms, but they may remain to our south, so the Virginia 529 College Savings 250 should be good to go for racing under the lights at RIR.
Saturday will be a partly sunny day with a few more clouds developing in the afternoon. It will be a warm day with highs in the middle 80s. The big concern is for an area of moisture on our weather models which looks to slide up from the Carolinas during the day. There is a chance that the majority of that moisture may slide just to our east, but it is too early to tell, therefore I have to put in the risk for showers and thunderstorms for Saturday night, which means we might have some caution flags for the Federated Auto Parts 400 at RIR.
Sunday will feature partly sunny skies with highs in the middle 80s.
