Great 8 Happenings: NASCAR, Disney On Ice, and more

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — This weekend is full of fun events for the whole family! Grab your Mickey ears because Disney on Ice is coming to Richmond and it’s sure to be a magical show.  Also, NASCAR fans can look forward to a busy weekend because there will be races Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND:

Disney on Ice: 100 Years of Magic: This magical show will have over 50 cast members, including Mickey Mouse, sweetheart Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy and Disney Princesses including Cinderella, Rapunzel, Ariel, Snow White and Tiana. Disney’s Frozen with Anna, Elsa and the hilarious Olaf will also make an appearance. You will be able to sing-along to over 30 Disney songs including “Let It Go,” “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” and “Hakuna Matata.” This event is sure to be a magical time for you and your little ones.

THURSDAY:

  • K&N Pro Series: The 2015 K&N Pro Series uses race cars that are similar to those used in the NASCAR Nationwide Series with a focus on keeping the costs to a minimum.  Points for driver and owner championships are awarded based on the racers finishing position and number of laps in the lead.
    • When: September 10

    • Price: Tickets are $10, Kids 12 and younger are FREE with a ticketed adult.

FRIDAY

  • NASCAR Xfinity Series VA529 COLLEGE SAVINGS 250: Up and coming racers as well as NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stars will battle it out around the 3/4 mile D-shaped oval. Friday night’s race will be a great night to bring the whole family because children 12-years-old and younger are admitted free with a ticketed adult in general admission sections.
    • When: September 11 at 7:30 p.m.

  • 28th Annual Crab Feast: The Home Builders Association of Southside Virginia will host a crab feast! All you can eat steamed crabs, fried fish, clam chowder, hot dogs, and hush puppies. All tickets
    must be purchased in advance, no tickets will be sold at the gate.
    • When: September 11, 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.

SATURDAY

  • NASCAR Sprint Cup Series FEDERATED AUTO PARTS 400: This will be the final race of Richmond International Raceway’s 2015 season.This race is usually the “most anticipated race of the season as drivers will be “desperate for points and wins as this race is “One Last Race to Make The Chase.” 
    • When: September 12 at 7: 30 p.m.
    • Where: Richmond International Raceway, 602 E Laburnum Ave, Richmond, VA 23222
    • Price: General Admission Tickets start at $35

 

  • The Hero 5k and Kid Fun Run: You can bring the whole family for this walk/run that honors those who serve (and have served) our community in fields such as military, police, firefighters, first responders, healthcare workers and educators. A free family festival will follow the race from 10am-2pm – complete with moon bounces, firetruck, obstacle courses, vendors & sponsors, giveaways, Q94 instant beach tickets, games, refreshments, and food.
    • When: September 12, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.

SUNDAY

  • Bandit Queens Bellydance Brunch: Ever wanted to take a belly dancing class, well now you can for FREE! Bandit Queens Bellydance Brunch is RVA’s only monthly bellydance brunch. Held the second Sunday of every month at the Camel, it features a family friendly feast of skilled dancers, great reasonably priced food, and a free dance class for all at 11:30am. Hosted by Richmond’s own international bellydance teacher and performer, Madame Onca, this event draws talent to RVA from NYC, Florida and even Sweden!
