RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Joe Morrissey has withdrawn his bid for state Senate due to health complications.

Morrisey says he’s suffering from a paralyzed diaphragm. He had previously suspending campaigning activities last week for the same reason.

Morrissey stated:

After speaking with all of my health care providers, I have decided to withdraw from the State Senate race and focus on rehabilitating my diaphragm. For 3 and a half months, I have enjoyed going door-to-door and meeting with thousands of folks in Central Virginia. However, at this time, my primary concerns are my health and growing family. I am 100% certain that I will fully rehabilitate my diaphragm and make a 100% recovery.”

Morrissey also sent along a note from his doctor confirming his illness.

Back in May, Morrissey announced that he was the father of a baby boy with his former secretary, 19-year-old Myrna Pride.

Morrissey previously served a three-month jail sentence as part of the work-release program after he was convicted for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Morrissey was accused of having sex with his secretary, Pride, when she was underage. Pride also spoke at the May press conference. There, she denied that the two were ever sexually involved when she was a minor.
