RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — With a few days left before the Richmond 2015 UCI Road World Championships sweep into town GRTC Transit System officials are asking commuters to give themselves plenty of time to get around.
“Everybody, no matter how you get around town we’re encouraging everybody to plan extra time to get to and from destinations especially from one hour prior to a race event all the way through one hour after a race event,” stressed GRTC Transit System Public Relations Manager Carrie Rose Pace.
Brian Montgomery does not let his disabilities get in the way of getting around; he uses GRTC’s Care-van service which helps take customers from curb to curb.
However, Montgomery is concerned that the races will impact his commuting plans.
“Like I have to see a specialist to have my eyes checked while the race is going on and if I have to change my appointment I will most likely be charged for changing my appointment,” said Montgomery.
He’s also worried about whether the longer commutes will take a toll on his health.
“When we set up the appointment we can be waiting instead of a half hour we can be waiting an hour and a half to two and half hours to come back home and for medical reasons I can’t go too long without eating,” he stated.
Rose Pace said there will be detours in the routes during the race and commuters could view maps on its website at www.ridegrtc.com.
