CHESTERFIELD CO., Va. (WRIC) — A former officer at Riverside Regional Jail was arrested this week for sexually assaulting a minor.
On September 5, a 16-year-old female reported that a male suspect who she knew sexually assaulted her. She claimed the assault took place at the suspect’s home a week prior prior on August 27 .
The suspect, 21-year-old Jarrell Barnes of the 21200 block of Holloway Avenue, was arrested on September 9 and charged with rape, object sexual penetration and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Southside Regional Jail released the following statement regarding the arrest of their employee:
“Mr. Barnes’ employment was terminated once RRJA received notification from the investigating detective in his arrest. Mr. Barnes began his employment with RRJA on June 22 and was terminated on September 9. RRJA has cooperated with the Chesterfield County Police Department in reference to their investigation.
“The Riverside Regional Jail Authority has no further comment at this time.”
