CHARLOTTESVILLE (WSLS) – The Charlottesville and UVa. community are remembering 19-year-old student Hannah Graham. She was abducted in Charlottesville just over a year ago.
Graham was last seen walking on the Downtown Mall on September 13 last year, caught by security cameras, just blocks from the Free Speech Wall.
Her remains were found a little more than a month later in Albemarle County.

Members of Help Save the Next Girl came out to Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall to chalk the Freedom of Speech Wall to remember her. Community members are raising awareness to prevent women from becoming another victim of a predator.
“We’re working diligently to make young people aware of personal safety and be aware of their own surroundings and keep themselves safe, as well as their responsibility to their colleagues,” said Gil Harrington, Help Save the Next Girl.
The organization was formed in honor of Morgan Harrington, a Virginia Tech student who was abducted from Charlottesville and murdered six years ago.
Jesse Matthew Jr. has been linked to her death. He’s also charged with the murder of Hannah Graham.
