SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE (WSLS) – People from across Southwest Virginia gathered on Saturday to remember slain journalists, Alison Parker and Adam Ward as well as show support for Vicki Gardner. Gardner is the lone survivor of the deadly shooting at Smith Mountain Lake. A “Day of Remembrance” was held at Bridgewater Plaza.
Gardner was joined by crowds of people as they shared hugs, held hands and unveiled a permanent memorial made for Parker and Ward. During the event a helicopter flew overhead and dropped rose petals as a tribute to the two young lives lost. The event included a silent auction. Donations will go toward scholarships set up in Adam and Alison’s honor. Proceeds will also be donated to a fund called “Vicki’s Vision”.
