(WRIC) — A Fredericksburg veteran and his service dog were allegedly stopped from getting on a flight in Los Angeles.

That’s because an employee with American Airlines thought Captain Jason Haag’s certified service dog Axel was a fake service dog.

You’ll remember we first told you about Captain Haag and Axel earlier this month when Axel was nominated for an award from the American Humane Society.

Axel was named “2015 Service Dog of the Year” at a ceremony in California this weekend.

But Haag says their joy was short lived when the airline reportedly wouldn’t let them board the plane.

Watch 8News reporter Matthew McClellan’s report above to see why K9s for Warriors founder Shari Duval says she is outraged.
