LEXINGTON, Va. (WRIC) — A first-year student at VMI died Monday afternoon after collapsing during routine physical training.
According to a release on the school’s website, the first-year cadet died after being transported to Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington.
Emergency medical technicians on the scene treated him immediately and transported him to the VMI Infirmary. He was transported by ambulance from the infirmary to the local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 6 p.m. today.
His parents have been notified, but VMI is withholding his name until other family members have been informed.
The student’s death remains under investigation.
