RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Cloudy skies will be over central Virginia today and rain will begin to develop this morning into the afternoon.

The rain will become steadier this afternoon and evening making for a very wet commute coming home from work. Highs today will top out in the lower 80s and it will be muggy. More showers are possible tonight with lows in the upper 60s to lower 70s.

Some showers will be around Wednesday morning but then we will see mainly cloudy skies for the afternoon, as the area of rain from today finally pulls away. Highs on Wednesday will top out in the lower 80s.

Mostly cloudy skies will be with us for Thursday with highs in the lower 70s. By late Thursday night and early Friday, all focus will turn toward Joaquin, which became a tropical storm last night. While the official track keeps this system well east off of the coast of Virginia, there are many forecast models that take this system much farther west allowing it to track into coastal North Carolina and Coastal Virginia.

This track will bring a period of steady to heavy rain to the region Friday, Friday and Saturday.

By Sunday this system should be on the way out, allowing for mostly cloudy skies to become partly sunny by late in the day.  The forecast for Friday through Sunday, certainly needs to be watched closely.
