CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Humane Society is offering a reward for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for abandoning an emaciated and mutilated dog in Caroline County.
The reward of up to $5,000 is being offered after that Caroline County Animal Shelter received a stray, emaciated adult male pitbull on September 11. The dog was found in a ditch along Edgar Road, about half a mile from the King William County line.
According to the Humane Society, the dog’s ears appeared to have been cut off. He was also so emaciated and so infested with fleas that he could hardly walk.
The dog was transferred to an animal hospital where he received a blood transfusion and other treatments needed to save his life. The dog has since been transferred to a rescue.
The dog appears to be 1 or 2-years-old, according to the Humane Society. They say the dog, who’s now named Hogan, “did not come to be in this condition overnight, and his symptoms are consistent with long term neglect.”
“The Humane Society of the United States seeks to confront cruelty against animals everywhere, including every Virginia community,” said Matthew Gray, Virginia state director for The HSUS. “We hope that this reward will assist Caroline County Animal Control in finding those responsible for this sickening neglect and abuse of an innocent pet.”
The Caroline County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Deputy Jessee at at 804-633-9041.
