Fallen tree impacts phone, cable services for Richmonders

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A fallen tree is impacting phone service for some people in Richmond.

The tree fell across Lumkin Avenue between Jeff Davis Highway and Lynhaven Avenue Friday morning. The area is taped off to traffic while the tree remains in the road.

A Comcast crew is on scene assessing the problem. One employee tells 8News that two cable and phone poles were struck by the tree and are down, but it appears at this time only phone service has been impacted.

The Richmond Fire Department confirms the cable and phone lines are down, but Lt. Chris Armstrong says they aren’t sure exactly why the tree fell.

When the ground is saturated and rain continues to fall, it is possible for trees with weak root systems to topple.

There’s no word yet on how many people are affected or when service will resume.
