RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Between 6 and 10 a.m. on Friday, Virginia State Police dispatchers across the state fielded 244 calls for service.
During that same time period, state troopers responded to 74 traffic crashes and 52 disabled vehicles. As of 11 a.m., state troopers are on scene of 24 traffic crashes statewide.
There have been no reported fatal crashes and few of today’s crashes involved injuries.
Police went ahead and broke down crashes per areas of the Commonwealth:
Division I – Richmond (Metro Richmond/Northern Neck/Tri-Cities)

Traffic Crashes=5 | Disabled Vehicles=0
Division IV – Wytheville (Wytheville/Dublin/Galax/Bristol/Vansant/Wise)
Traffic Crashes=6 | Disabled Vehicles=8
Division V – Chesapeake (Hampton Roads/Tidewater/Eastern Shore/Williamsburg/Franklin/Emporia)
Traffic Crashes=22 | Disabled Vehicles=11
Division VI – Salem (Lexington/Clifton Forge/Roanoke/Blacksburg/Bedford/Martinsville/Danville)
Traffic Crashes=5 | Disabled Vehicles=2
Division VII – Fairfax (Prince William/Loudoun/Arlington/Alexandria/Fairfax)

State Police wanted to take this opportunity to warn drivers to continue to be on alert for flooded roadways limited visibility, and slick conditions as the heavy rains continue through the day.
Here are some tips from police to ensure safe driving:
- Use your headlights! State law requires headlights on when windshield wipers are activated. Plus, the headlights make you more visible to other drivers when visibility is limited in a heavy downpour.
- Slow your speed to safely navigate inclement road and weather conditions.
- Turn Around. Don’t Drown. Never drive through standing water. What looks like a puddle can be deep and swift-moving water, so don’t risk it. Turn around and find another, safer route to your destination.
- Always buckle up.
- Never drive distracted.
- Dial 511 for Road Conditions. Reserve 911 and #77 for emergencies calls only.
