MIDLOTHIAN, Va. (WRIC) — Back in April, A Midlothian teen’s Spring Break in the Caymen Islands turned upside down when a van hit him.

Harrison Zierenberg sustained multiple skull fractures and swelling in the brain.

Now, weeks later, the community is sticking by his side.

500 people registered for the 5K fundraiser, which was held at the ACAC gym in Midlothian. And just for this one race alone, roughly $30,000 was raised.

The money will go towards Harrison’s medical bills. He’s currently at VCU Medical Center, and doing much better.

And get this: He’s improved so much that his doctor gave him the go ahead to do a 5K on a bike at the hospital, at the same moment all his supporters were running and walking Saturday’s 5K.
