MIDLOTHIAN, Va. (WRIC) — A young Midlothian woman who nearly died after a heart attack is making a remarkable recovery.
Hailey Lane was just 19-years-old when she suffered a massive heart attack in March. It almost killed her.
Today, she’s determined to move forward with big plans for her future.
“I’m a risk taker and unless a doctor tells me about 500 times not to do something, I will probably still do it,” explains Hailey.
Her inner strength was pretty clear back in May when Hailey came home after six weeks in the hospital and insisted on walking through the front door.
Now she’s moving in ways no one expected.
Hailey is reclaiming her life at the very place where she suffered the heart attack that almost took her life – the gym.
She’s working out four to five times a week and living up to the hashtag that stormed social media during her recovery.
A #WeAreHaileyStrong sign still hangs outside her gym and serves as a personal reminder,
“I’m a lot stronger and better than I was a few months back,” says Hailey, “And you know, I’m just looking forward to continuing to strengthen myself and get better and prepare myself for a better life soon to come.”
Her life and heart are full. Over the weekend, she served as the grand marshal for the Midlothian Day parade. This year’s theme revolved around #WeAreHaileyStrong.
“I’m just so thankful for the community and the family support and friend support and it’s a different feeling but it’s one I wouldn’t trade. I think i’m a better person because of what I went through,” adds Hailey.
She is excited about the future because Hailey’s been cleared to return to the Air Force Academy in Colorado.
She was a cadet before her heart attack and now plans to go back to her friends and fellow cadets next June.
