GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Goochland County was hit hard during the weekend storm. Dominion Virginia Power crews hit several locations in the county repairing problem areas to restore power to customers.
Several trees fell on power lines in the area. Goochland County Kingdom Hall minister and elder Michael Bowles kept a close eye on the house of a congregation member after a huge tree fell on the member’s roof.
“She missed a meeting yesterday, so I called and I couldn’t get up with her because the phones weren’t working, so I called her on her cell phone today and she was in a dilemma dealing with the insurance company and so I said I’m coming down to check it out and we’re going to get some brothers over there tonight or this afternoon,” Bowles explained. “We’re going to put a tarp on the roof and we’re going to cut the tree off, and we’re going to get you secured for the time being.”
But, there was a problem.
“The power line was all into the tree, and I don’t go near electricity and I don’t put anybody else in it,” said the minister.
Eighty-one-year-old Jim Robinette is another Goochland County resident who had to rough it this past weekend. He was prepared with two generators — both of them broke down.
He needed power and to keep his 80-year old wife comfortable because she requires extra oxygen around the clock.
“It’s been tough especially with no air and a person with oxygen shortage has problem breathing,” said Robinette.
Fortunately, his power was restored early Monday afternoon.
