HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A Glen Allen man is accused of posting so-called “revenge porn.”

Twenty-one-year-old John Michael Chevalier is charged with two counts of unlawful dissemination or sale of images, meaning he allegedly posted very personal photos of someone without their permission.

Henrico Police served Chevalier with warrants early Tuesday morning.

The charges come after a student at the University of Mary Washington went to police and complained. She told officers that her ex-boyfriend shared personal pictures of her online through several social media sites. This allegedly happened twice over Halloween weekend.

Police released a statement to 8News, which reads in full:

On Nov. 1, a University of Mary Washington student reported to UMW police that personal photos of her taken during a past relationship were shared without her consent online through various social media outlets. The offenses occurred on Oct. 30 and Nov. 1. UMW Police obtained two warrants on Michael Chevalier, 21, of Glen Allen, citing unlawful dissemination or sale of images of another. Henrico police arrested Chevalier, who is not a UMW student, at 1:30 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 3 at his Henrico County home.”

Chevalier denies the accusations. He tells 8News he hasn’t posted any photos on social media in more than a week and adds the charges are an embarrassment that are costing him time off of work.
