RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — 8News has received the full report on the UCI Road World Championships held in Richmond two months ago. We now know what it took and what it cost the city to host the big race.
The costs date back to 2010, not long after the city received word that it had been chosen as the host of the UCI race. We’re going through the numbers, but here’s what we’ve learned so far:
- In all, Richmond spent just over $4 million on expense items exclusive to the race. That includes $52,000 on events and travel to other cycling races between 2011-2014.
- Just over $20,000 was spent on race promotion and events
- $1.7 million was spent on city personnel costs. That’s nearly $200,000 more than what was budgeted.
This report was expected to be released during Monday’s city council meeting, but the city sent it to us on Tuesday.
We’ll have more figures tonight on 8News at 11.
