RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — It’s the meteorological start of winter!
After a rainy and raw day yesterday we can expect more of the same today with one small change, our temperatures, they will run about 10 degrees warmer than yesterday. That cold front that was hung up to our south that we talked about yesterday morning, well today it will begin to slowly budge and move back northwards as a warm front eventually allowing much milder air to spill into the region on Wednesday. That front will then set up shop just to our north continuing our unsettled pattern until Wednesday evening. In the short term though, expect clouds, areas of fog, drizzle and showers, by later this evening we can look for that rain to become more widespread, steadier and heavier.
As a cold front approaches the area on Wednesday we will become quite mild ahead of it, some spots flirting with 70 degrees. A wave of energy develops along the cold front enhancing the showers, heavy downpours likely and even the outside chance of a rumble of thunder.
The front should clear us by Wednesday evening and clearing gradually takes place overnight into Thursday morning. Much more pleasant weather works in on Thursday and lasts right through the weekend and much of next week.
