HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Bystanders helped extinguish a man who caught fire at a CVS in Henrico County Tuesday afternoon.
According to Captain Danny Rosenbaum with Henrico Fire, the call came in at 2:50 p.m. for a car and possible person on fire at the CVS at the intersection of Lauderale and Patterson.
Bystanders helped extinguish the flames by using a portable fire extinguisher. The victim was transported to VCU Medical Center with burns to 75 percent of his body.
During their investigation, first responders determined that the fire started after the victim lit a cigarette in his car and caught his pants leg on fire. He then stepped out of the car, and a wind gust caused the flames to expand across more of his body. The car did not catch fire and no bystanders were hurt while assisting.
