CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) – It took fire crews almost 50 minutes to extinguish a fire at a dog training business in Chesterfield Thursday morning.
The fire occurred at one of two buildings at the facility, which is located at 3907 Bellson Park Drive. The fire started around 10:30 a.m. Because of the wind, there was a concern the fire would spread to a second building where 48 dogs were being cared for. Because of this potentially dangerous situation, workers had to quickly evacuate all the animals.
‘The staff here at Tori’s K9 Adventures did a fantastic job at making sure all of their pets were in that one location. We told them we had to evacuate the location and they did a great job of transferring from one building to another,” says Lt. Jason Elmore with the Chesterfield Fire and EMS department.
None of the animals or staff involved in the rescue was injured. The owner says she’s very proud of her staff.
“These are my babies. The staff, the dogs, the buildings. We just expanded a couple of months ago and this was a big new addition for us, our new training center. All the blood sweat and tears my staff out into it the past couple of months, it’s just hard to look at it with nothing left,” says Tori Trent, the owner the facility.
Fire officials say an exhaust fan caused the fire. Since only one building was damaged, the facility will open Friday.
