HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Several local officers and deputies participated in the 18th annual “Cops and Kids” program (also known as shop with a cop) over the weekend.
Members from the Henrico Police Department, the Henrico Sheriff’s Office, the New Kent Sheriff’s office and the Richmond International Airport Police started off the day having breakfast with children and families.
Everyone then met up at an area Walmart, where the kids were then paired up with an officer for shopping. The children were allowed to spend $200 total, $100 for necessities (shoes, clothes, coats, etc.) and the remaining $100 went to the toys of their choice.
This program is sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Police and various local businesses.
Our sincere thanks go out to those that volunteered their time to help with this program. The smiles on the children’s faces made this event a complete success. It is our hope this can make the children’s Holiday season just a little brighter.”
