RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) is looking for information after a dog was found with injuries consistent with dog fighting.
RACC Director Christie Chipps Peters described the condition of the pit bull dog as, “filled with maggots an injury we tried to save every animal we can money is not an issue we would raise money to try to save a life and the vets were like we can’t save him he’s a point of no return.”
The injuries were so severe, the dog had to be euthanized.
The shelter posted on their Facebook page Friday that the dog was found off of X Street in Church Hill and was taken directly to Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center.
“We had quite a few complaints and tips coming in about dog fighting in that area he is the second dog we have pulled that might point us to dog fighting in that area, so we’re asking the public if they could please share anything, something is going on and someone knows what’s going on. We just need to find that someone,” added Chipps Peters.

A full investigation into the incident has been launched and RACC says they “have a few tips but need more.”
