RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — It will be sunny again today and rather pleasant with highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

A cold front in the central part of the United States will be pushing east today and pulling up moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. These two areas of moisture will converge on central Virginia later tonight and into the day on Thursday. This will set us up for a period of steady rain during the day on Thursday. We could see between a half inch to an inch and a half of rain on during this event.

The rain will hold on until early Friday morning and then it will exit the east coast allowing the sunshine to return for the second half of Friday. It will be much cooler behind this system with highs in the lower 50s on Friday.

Looking ahead to the weekend, we will see sunny skies for Saturday and Sunday with highs in the middle to upper 40s.

The cooler air will be short lived as the warmer air will return on Monday with partly sunny skies and highs around 60.

We will climb into the lower and middle 60s for Tuesday and Wednesday, but we will see another chance of rain for Wednesday into Christmas Eve.
