RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Primary Elections are being held around Virginia on Tuesday.
Voters are determining who they want as their candidates to run in the General Assembly races in the fall.
If you plan to vote, you must have a valid photo I.D. You do not have to be a registered member of a party to vote today, you just have to be registered to vote in general. However, you can only vote in the Republican or Democratic Primary, you can’t do both.
One race people will be watching today is what happens in House District 74. That seat has been left vacant by Joe Morrissey.
In the race for Democratic Primary is Stephen Adkins, School Board Member Lamont Bagby, and former Richmond Mayor and ex-convict Leonidas Young.
Then in Senate District 16, which Morrissey plans to run in, there is incumbent Senator Rosalyn Dance facing off with Delegate Joseph Preston.
Polls close at 7 p.m.
