BON AIR, VA. (WRIC) — The Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities joined with nearly 100 religious and organizational leaders at the Islamic Center of Virginia Thursday to stand together against Islamophobia and xenophobia.
More than 40 religious leaders from different faiths called on an end to Islamaphobia, speaking in solidarity with the local Muslim community. All in attendance stood together behind each speaker to demonstrate their support and stand together against divisive and bigoted rhetoric. Leaders challenged the public to get to know their neighbors and their stories. Clergy members also challenged the public to reject fear.
“I do not stand with these wonderful faith leaders with any sense of fear, nor will I allow the culture and climate of fear to be what defines us. Those who choose that choose weakness,”
said Rabbi Ben Bomer of Bonay Kodesh reform Judaism community.
Religious leaders also announced a public event on January 10th at Congregation Beth Ahabah for the interfaith community in Richmond. Further details will be announced in the coming weeks.
Also a pledge also launched online where supporters can sign their names in solidarity with the local Muslim community.
