AUSTIN (KXAN) — “The Force has chosen!”
So said Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Monday, as it announced the winner of its “Star Wars: The Marathon Awakens” fan contest.
Jim Braden of Austin, the winner of the marathon, began watching 46 hours of nonstop Star Wars screenings at 4:30 a.m. on Thursday with four other contestants. The marathon, held at the South Lamar Boulevard theater, was made up of the two trilogies, nine showings of the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the Star Wars Holiday Special.
The rules: no sleeping, no talking and no texting allowed. Bathroom breaks were allowed in between films.
“I know I’m a true, life-long Star Wars fan because I still love the series even after watching all of the movies back to back for so long,” Braden said.

Alamo Drafthouse CEO and Founder Tim League congratulated the winner, saying, “We salute the resolve and resilience of this brave Jedi and we look forward to hosting him at Star Wars screenings for the next seven years.”
His reward? A seven-year movie pass to Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.
In addition to the movie pass, Braden received a complete set of 2015 and 2016 Topps Star Wars card reader cards and a selection of rare Star Wars mondo prints. Alamo Drafthouse will also name a theater seat in his honor.
