BROWNSBURG, Ind. (WISH) — Emergency crews rescued more than a dozen horses trapped in rising flash flood water Sunday afternoon in Brownsburg.

The Brownsburg Fire Territory said 14 horses at Natural Valley Farm on County Road 350 North were trapped in a pasture area surrounded by water.

The horses were able to move around but showed signs of wanting to leave the area, prompting crews to conduct a rescue.

Officials announced around 3 p.m. that all horses were now on safe ground. The rescue lasted about two hours, the Morgantown Fire Department said in a release.

The Morgantown FD said rescuers were rotated to prevent hypothermia.

The owners of the animals reportedly told the Indianapolis Fire Department that water levels were low when they went to bed Saturday night. When they checked on the horses Sunday morning, the owners noticed the high water.

No animals or people were injured. However, one person was arrested for interfering with the rescue effort.

Rescue crews from Brownsburg, Avon, Plainfield, Danville and Morgantown were involved.
