HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Henrico police are investigating a woman’s death in the county’s east end Tuesday afternoon as suspicious.
When authorities arrived in the 3900 block of East Chatham Drive for a reported medical emergency Tuesday afternoon, they found an elderly woman, 81-year-old Bertha Bernice Panel, dead inside the home.
Because police found signs of possible trauma to Panel’s body, they are investigating her death as suspicious.
8News spoke with one of the victim’s relatives who found Panel dead inside the home.
“When I came home, I noticed blood on a shirt. I though maybe (Panel’s) grandson hurt himself because her car wasn’t there and there was dirt all over the carpet, which I still haven’t cleaned,” Sheila Dudley told 8News Reporter Matthew McClellan. “And I went to her bedroom because I always check there. I went in and saw her white blanket on the floor and pulled it back and that’s when I discovered her.”
Police have not indicated whether or not they have a suspect in custody as they continue their investigation.
