CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WRIC) — A celebration of life service for Virginia Rose Vandermark has been scheduled for Saturday, January 2.

All are welcome to attend the ceremony, which is taking place at the Southside Church of The Nazarene, 6851 Courthouse Road in Chesterfield at 1:00 p.m. The service will also be streamed online here.

Virginia Rose became well known both locally and nationally after she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia on April 9. The community rallied around the 4-year-old, giving her an early Christmas celebration since doctors weren’t sure if she would make it through the holiday. She passed away on Tuesday, December 29.

Virginia Rose’s family requests that attendees wear pink and purple, her favorite colors, in her honor.

The family is extremely grateful for all of the community support they have received. They would especially like to thank Noah’s Children, Virginia’s home care team, for their excellent work and loving care; the entire staff of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, and the Children’s Hospital of Richmond MCV for their constant, attentive treatment and care; Make A Wish of Virginia for granting her wish trip to Disney; Southside Church of The Nazarene, Parkway and Swift Creek Baptist Church, Clover Hill Assembly of God, Life Pointe Church in Toano, and many other churches who supported us and prayed for us daily; the entire community of family, friends, neighbors, and strangers who supported and encouraged her and the family during this 9 month battle,” the Vandermark family said in a statement released on Wednesday. “As we celebrate Virginia’s life, our desire is to become a blessing to other families who are deeply in need with similar circumstances.”

In lieu of flowers, the Vandermarks are asking for donations to The Virginia Rose AML Foundation.

If you have any photos of Virginia Rose, family asks that you bring them on a disk to the memorial service. You may also submit any photos on their Facebook page here.
