RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — An Alberta Clipper, a fast moving system with limited moisture will approach the region today.
Ahead of this system, our winds will be out of the southwest and be rather blustery with gusts from 15 to 30 mph. This combined with partly sunny skies will help to push our temperatures to near 50 or slightly better. By the late afternoon, more clouds will increase as that cold front approaches. It could bring us a few spotty rain showers and as the cold as comes racing into central Virginia this evening we might see those few showers end as a few flurries or a snow shower. It will be windy and much colder tonight with lows in the upper teens to lower 20s under mainly clear skies.
Wednesday will be partly sunny but windy and much colder with highs in the middle 30s.
Some slight moderation can be expected on Thursday with highs climbing back into the middle 40s under sunny skies.
Another weather system will begin to approach the region from the south on Friday. This will give us partly sunny skies to begin the day but by the afternoon those clouds will increase. Some showers could move in by Friday evening. Highs on Friday will be mild before that transition as we top out in the middle 50s. Steady rain will move in Friday night into early Saturday and there is the chance we could see a half inch to an inch of rain, based on what we are seeing now.
Any rain will clear out early Saturday morning and we will see some afternoon sunshine with highs around 60.
Sunday will be seasonable with highs around 50 under partly sunny skies.
Another arctic front will cross into the region on Monday giving us highs in the lower 40s on Monday and middle to upper 30s on Tuesday under partly sunny skies.
