RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Clouds have rolled in over the region as a cold front sinks southwards.
That same front will eventually stall out over the mid-Atlantic and keep some unsettled weather in the picture unfortunately as we head into the long holiday weekend. Expect a mostly cloudy day for your Thursday with showers developing, as the day heats up the thunderstorm risk also increases with heavy downpours and some possible gusty winds. The only good news about the front stalling out over the area is that it will keep the scorching heat away for at least the next few days as highs are held back into the low to middle 80s.
Look for more widespread shower activity on Friday. Friday evening is when a lot of local fireworks displays are scheduled and it is looking iffy, if we can get this front to push far enough south then we may clear the showers out in time, if not then things could remain quite wet.
By Saturday, the 4th of July, look for more breaks of sunshine but the risk for more afternoon showers and storms firing up through the day.
Not the most ideal holiday weekend forecast but at least it will not be a total washout.
