(WATE) – Here are seven easy things to do that can make your life easier during winter weather.
1. Wet snow may be great for snowballs, but it makes shoveling the driveway difficult. The snow just sticks to the shovel. Spray some nonstick cooking spray on the shovel and the snow will slide right off. Cooking spray works too. It’s just messier.
2. A quick and easy way to defrost your windshield is to spray a mixture of 2/3 rubbing alcohol and 1/3 water. Rubbing alcohol has a lower freezing point than water, and will therefore de-ice your windshield much quicker.
3. You can thaw ice on frozen door handles with hand sanitizer. Spraying your keyhole with WD-40 can help prevent it from freezing in the first place.
4. Before winter weather is expected, put your windshield wipers in the up position to keep them from freezing to the windshield. You can also cover them with socks to keep them ice free.

5. Stuck in the snow? Keep some kitty litter in your car to spread under your tires. It can help you get out of a slick spot.
6. Concerned about high heating bills? When you’re done cooking a meal in the oven, leave the door open so the remaining heat can escape and help heat your home.
7. If you like to ride your bike in the snow, some evenly spaced zip ties on the tires will give you better traction.
