HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — One puppy has died and two others are recovering after being rescued from a garage fire in Henrico County Monday afternoon.
The fire occurred at 2:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Green Court Road near Glenside and Staples Mill Road. When crews arrived, they found smoke and fire coming from the garage of the home.
Officials quickly extinguished the fire and located three puppies inside the garage. Two perked up after receiving oxygen, according to Henrico Fire Captain Danny Rosenbaum.
All three were taken to a local veterinary hospital. One of them is doing fine, according to Rosenbaum, and a second is in critical condition, but authorities are hopeful a full recovery will be made. The third puppy died Monday evening.
The cause of the fire was a light bulb that was being used to warm the puppies. Rosenbaum said the puppies may have bumped the lamp into something combustible.
