Sunny skies, mild conditions for Saturday

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — We have a beautiful weekend set out ahead of us to wrap up January. High pressure is building overhead and will keep our skies sunny and clear today with temperatures riding on a southerly flow topping out in the low to middle 50s. As that low slides offshore tonight our winds will really start to kick in from the south and the ‘heat pump’ gets into gear.

Under sunny skies on Sunday we will see temperatures soar into the middle 60s. The majority of the snow pack will be melting away this weekend and that sets us up for temperatures even warmer into the work week.

Highs on Monday will likely top out around 70 in most areas. Our weather then turns unsettled as we head into the middle and end of the week. A very potent weather system charges across the middle of the country likely sparking severe weather in the Midwest, out ahead of the system here in central Virginia we enjoy breezy southerly winds and temperatures in the 60s to around 70.

As the system nears rain chances go up beginning on Wednesday. The front takes its time moving through and will keep rain in the forecast through Thursday. As the front pushes just to our east cold air will begin to pour in and at the same time a system will develop and track along that front. The possibility is there that we see some sort of wintry mix developing on Friday as the storm pushes out to sea. Otherwise, on the heels of that system we turn sunny and cooler into next weekend.
