RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — One of two men facing charges in the fatal shooting of 12-year-old Amiya Moses appeared in court Monday.

20-year-old Dwight Q. Jackson had a term hearing today. Jackson and Shaquille D. Maxwell, also 20, are accused in Moses’ death, which shook the community back in December.

Maxwell and Jackson are both charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

Amiya was visiting a friend on Saturday, December 19 when she was struck by a stray bullet in the 4900 block of Old Brook Road. She later died at the hospital. Amiya was in the sixth grade and had just celebrated a birthday a few weeks before.

Police believe the shooting stemmed from a dispute between the two suspects.

At Maxwell’s last court appearance, the judge granted a request to exclude media and members of the public from the courtroom. Maxwell is set to appear in court again on February 18.

Jackson will be back in court on March 14.
