RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — That big storm that has been affecting the upper Midwest with heavy snow and the deep South with severe storms is on the way here and will be the main factor in our forecast for the next 24 hours.
Tonight will be cloudy with overnight lows in the mid-40s. Some light rain is possible tomorrow morning in the western part of the state. By the afternoon, a line of showers and possible thunderstorms will form and start to move to the east. It will be windy and warm with many of us in the mid to upper 60s and even a few 70s in the area.
Behind the front, a more gentle rain will continue overnight into Thursday with lows in the upper 40s. Colder air will pour into the area on Thursday, so it will be a struggle to get much warmer than the middle 50s.
Sunshine is back on Friday and Saturday, but the weather will be cooler with highs in the 40s to the lower 50s. Sunday clouds will start to increase with highs up in the lower 50s.
Long range models start to develop a whole slew of different solutions for a possible storm in the Sunday night-Tuesday time frame. None of them are in agreement on the particulars of what is going to happen, which yields a very low confidence forecast at this point. Two out of the three long-range models are off the coast (last night more of them were inland with the storms which would be a soaking rain), one of them missing us on Monday and actually giving us another system on Tuesday.
With that great of a discord in the model solutions, there is no reason right now to get excited about these systems until consistency develops. That will show up in a few days. Right now, expect the risk of rain on Monday and Tuesday, with some wintry precipitation possible to our west. I will say this, Tuesday through the end of next week looks to be a return back to a chillier weather pattern.
