GLEN ALLEN, Va. (WRIC)– Residents of several Glen Allen neighborhoods are complaining they’re not receiving mail. They say service stopped when the snow started last month.
Homeowner Sarah Cash says the only mail she’s seen in her mailbox lately is mail she put there herself.
“I had the flag up for some bills to go out and I noticed that the mail carrier came to the other side of the street at 7:30 last night but then disappeared and left,” explains Cash.
Neighbor Donald Price adds, “I assumed they were delivering to me and went out about an hour later just to find an empty mailbox.”
8News received those complaints from at least eight people who live in Glen Allen neighborhoods off of Springfield Road. Since the snow hit eleven days ago, many have only had mail delivered once. Their streets are completely clear; there is no snow or ice that might prevent a carrier from doing their job.
Co”Well it’s really frustrating knowing that I’m waiting on bills to come, tax documents,” Cash said. “I have letters that need to go out. So it’s really frustrating not to be able to depend on the mail service.”
She went to her post office only to be told that they called her carrier in for safety reasons because she was still delivering at 7:30 at night. Supervisors told another neighbor the same thing. Then, they handed him 16 pieces of mail, including mortgage statements, utility bills and those tax documents that most are people are expecting right now.
“The Glen Allen post office operates on its own set of rules and service is not one of them,” says Price.
A spokesperson for the postal service says the carrier for those neighborhoods insists she has been delivering the mail.
