WEST POINT, Va. (WRIC) — State police are searching for a suspect who led officers on a vehicle pursuit that began in West Point and ended on Interstate 64 Saturday morning.
According to police, the pursuit began in the town of West Point shortly after 10:09 a.m. When the suspect vehicle left town limits and began traveling west on I-64 in New Kent County, Virginia State Police then took lead in the pursuit.
When the chase got to mile marker 211, the suspect vehicle changed routes and began heading east. Due to the volume of traffic and the high rate of speed at which the suspect vehicle was traveling, police discontinued the pursuit.
The vehicle was located a short time later broken down near the 219 mile marker. The driver and the passenger both fled on foot. The passenger was located and taken into custody a short time later and is in the custody of the West Point police.
State police are still searching for the driver.
A description of the suspect has not been released.
