Richmond native and NFL quarterback Russell Wilson recently opened up about his relationship with singer Ciara, and says the two are abstaining from sex for religious reasons.
Wilson, who has always been outspoken about his faith and passionate about his religious beliefs, said he and Ciara met five or six months ago.
“The funny thing is, I told somebody that’s the girl I want to be with before I even met her,” Wilson told Pastor Miles McPherson with San Diego, Ca.’s Rock Church.
Wilson was previously married to his high school sweetheart, Ashton Meem, for two years before filing for divorce in 2014.
Ciara was engaged last year and has a child with her ex, Future, a popular rap artist.
Wilson said while Ciara was on tour, God spoke to him and said, “‘I need you to lead her.'”
“I was like, ‘really, right now?” Wilson said. He then suggested to Ciara that they take “all that extra stuff” off the table.
“We are talking about sex,” he said.
Wilson added that he and Ciara both agreed that, “it’s the fact that, could we love each other without that?”
Wilson did joke, though, that he doesn’t expect abstaining from sex to be easy.
“I aint going to lie to you all now, I need you all to pray for us.”
