HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A family of five was displaced from their Hanover home after a fire on Wednesday.

Authorities say that around 1:45 p.m., Hanover Fire and EMS crews were dispatched to a house fire in the 4000 block of Rockhill Road. Upon arrival, fire crews found a two story residence with smoke coming from the roof.
Fire crews quickly made entry to the home, searched the residence for occupants and made an aggressive attack on the fire. It took approximately 20 fire personnel to bring the fire under control in about 30 minutes.
No one was home at the time of the fire and no one was injured.
The Hanover Fire Marshal’s Office is working to determine what caused the fire, but say that it appears to have started in the kitchen area and traveled to the second floor of the home.
A family of five was displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross is assisting them.
Hanover Fire and EMS wants to remind you to have working smoke alarms on each floor of your home and outside of each sleeping area. Hanover Fire-EMS recommends that smoke alarms greater than 10-years-old be replaced.
