Richmond fire crews recover body after truck goes into James River overnight

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Fire crews in Richmond have recovered the body of a man after a pickup truck drove into the James River overnight.

The male body was recovered just before 6 a.m.

Authorities say two calls came in around 2:29 a.m. reporting that they saw a vehicle go into the water. Crews arrived on scene near the Annabelle Lee dock on Wharf Street around 2:36 a.m.

Dive teams have had to move slower because of safety reasons and limited visibility.

A tow truck is working to pull the truck from the river.

The area is currently taped off for emergency responders.

Richmond Police are now handling the incident as a death investigation.
