RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Police are continuing its investigation into an early Sunday morning hit-and-run; the victim was a 5-year-old girl.

According to police, it happened around 7:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Blue Ridge Estates apartments off of Midlothian Turnpike.

Family members told 8News the child was hit while riding her bike. The girl’s name is Christasia,

8News talked to her mother just hours after her daughter had undergone surgeries on her leg and head.

“What they did was, they removed some of the tissue from the right side so they could close the hole because it was open, it was like open, like basically all the hair on this side is gone,  the bone was exposed,” said Delquinta Sanderson, the child’s weary mother.

Sanderson added, that metal plates had to be put into her leg because her thigh was broken.

According to police, the suspect was driving a newer model white Ford Escape.

Sanderson hopes to bring the driver to justice.

“I just want anybody with any information to say something  because if the shoe was on the other foot then you would want somebody to come forward about any information that they had. I just want someone to say something,” Sanderson stated.
