MEXICO (KRON) — Mexican drug lord Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman made a brazen escape from a Mexican prison, and is now thumbing his nose at Mexican authorities by posting a picture of him flying in an airplane.
The capture of Guzman was the crowning achievement of President Enrique Pena Nieto’s government in its war against drug cartels, until the escape. In what has been a public relations and national security nightmare, Guzman’s escape proves cartels are still incredibly powerful entities that are able to circumnavigate the Mexican government’s authority.
The humiliating photos were posted on a blog reportedly operated by the billionaire drug lord’s son, elblogdelnarco.com.
The blog writes in Spanish that image analysis showed no signs of manipulation with programs such as Photoshop, and describes the tools used to compare and determine whether the image is real.
Authorities have been scouring the Santa Juanita area west of Mexico City, but the released airplane photo proves the search could span much father than the immediate area.
He is also photographed enjoying his freedom, drinking a beer.
