RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — De’Monte Buckingham tweeted Tuesday night that he’ll remain in Richmond for college, rather than play for one of the many out of town college basketball programs courting him.
Buckingham is a rising senior at Henrico High School who has racked up two state championships in his three years as a Warrior. He is one of the area’s best college prospects. UVA’s Tony Bennett and then-VCU Head Coach Shaka Smart had taken in some of his games at Henrico, and he’d been admired by many more college coaches on the AAU circuit.
Tuesday night, however,Buckingham tweeted, “I really believe in Coach Mooney’s plan for me, and I’ve decided to verbal [sic] commit to University of Richmond.”
