RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Starting today, all Virginia state workers will be getting a raise.
Even though those raises take effect today, state workers won’t see the raises on their paychecks until September 1.
All state employees are getting a two percent increase — their first raise since 2007.
To give you an idea of who will be getting the pay bump, it will be folks who are full-time and classified state employees. We’re talking about faculty at public colleges, state police, deputy sheriffs and people at local health departments and social services offices, among others.
Governor Terry McAuliffe says the money is coming from a state surplus of about $553 million.
