The store’s grand opening will go through Sunday. The three-day event features giveaways, family activities, the famous Bootmobile and more.
On Friday, the first 200 customers through the door snagged a free L.L.Bean Gift Card — some worth up to $500.
All through the weekend, there will be free fly-casting lessons by experts from L.L.Bean’s Outdoor Discovery Schools, along with slacklining, a Bean Boot toss game and more giveaways as well as product representatives from GoPro, Gore-Tex and PrimaLoft demonstrating the latest technologies in outdoor gear and apparel.
On Saturday and Sunday, you can also enter to win a trip to Maine for a family of four. Sunday is Kids’ Day, when it’s all about the children with a day of family fun featuring live animal demonstrations, sweet treat giveaways plus hands-on activities and programs with local Boy and Girl Scout troops.
As part of its grand opening, L.L. Bean has commissioned renowned Richmond artist Bobby Wiltshire to produce an original painting of the Shenandoah Valley to adorn Bean’s Christmas catalog, which will be mailed out to customers in the Richmond area. A reproduced print of this painting will be on display in the new retail store during the grand opening weekend and during this time, customers will have the opportunity to submit their name for a chance to win the print. The winner will be announced later in December.
The new 15,500 square-foot store will employ approximately 100 people and will feature an assortment of active and casual apparel and footwear, outdoor gear including hiking, fly-fishing, kayaking and camping products.
This will be L.L.Bean’s second store in Virginia and its 23rd retail store outside of Maine. It’s all a part of the company’s overall retail expansion strategy to have 100 full retail stores by 2020. L.L.Bean opened its first Virginia store in July of 2000 in Tysons Corner.
