Rain developing this evening with a mild Saturday ahead

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Clouds will be on the increase today as a weather system moves our way from the Gulf Coast States.

We will be mild today with highs in the middle 50s despite the clouds but I do expect showers to develop for the evening commute home. The showers will turn into a steady rain during tonight and the overnight with lows in the lower 40s. Any rain will quickly end on Saturday morning and then the sunshine will return with it being breezy and mild as highs climb to near 60.

Sunday will be a much cooler day with partly sunny skies as highs only climb into the middle 40s. An arctic front will sink south late Sunday evening and Sunday night and bring us a shot of cold air for the majority of next week.  While this front will cross mainly dry, we cannot rule out a few flurries but that’s about all.

Monday will be mainly sunny, windy and cold with highs in the lower to middle 30s.

The cold air will be around for Tuesday and Wednesday with highs in the lower 30s on Tuesday and upper 30s for Wednesday, under sunny to partly sunny skies.

We will climb into the lower 40s for Thursday and Friday, so still a touch below normal. Thursday will feature partly sunny skies, but as I mentioned yesterday, Friday could be wet and possibly a touch wintry.  It all depends on the track of our next weather system. The pattern this year has been for systems to stay to our west and this might be the case again, but if the system is close enough, the initial surge of moisture could begin as a wintry mix.  But there is a lot of “IFs” that have to be worked out before we get to next Friday, so let’s just leave it as – It’s something we are watching.
