HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A stretch of Laburnum Avenue was closed off Thursday night after a two-car crash claimed one life and left another person injured.
Residents tell 8News that there have been several deadly accidents at the intersection in the past few years.
The accident happened around 8:30 p.m. at the 11 North Aparments on Labrunum Avenue.
Police say a 1989 GMC van was exiting from the apartments and attempting to turn left. A 2006 Hyundai Sonata was northbound on Laburnum Avenue. Based on witness accounts and some evidence left on the roadway, the Hyundai switched lanes from right to left when the van pulled out in front of the car. The Hyundai then struck the driver side door and front of the van.
The driver of the van was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected when the van rolled over. The victim was identified as 29-year-old Andrew Vansickle, of Sandston. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Hyundai and passenger in the van were transported with non-life threatening injuries to VCU Medical Center.
An investigation is on-going at this time and charges are pending further investigation.
