HANOVER CO., Va. (WRIC) — One person is dead and another hospitalized after a tree fell onto a road in Hanover County and struck two cars Saturday evening.
Police say there was one person inside each car, which were traveling opposite directions on Patrick Henry Road (Route 43) between Ashland and Montpelier at around 5 p.m. Saturday evening.
According to police, a yellow Chevy Camaro was traveling westbound and a black Honda SUV was traveling eastbound when the tree fell, striking both cars. Police say the cause of the tree falling was “natural causes.”
The driver of the Camaro, who has been identified as 50-year-old Robin M. Adams of the Doswell area in Hanover County, died at the scene.
“We continue to ask that the family be kept in your thoughts and prayers,” Major Mike Trice with the Hanover Sheriff’s Department said in a release.
The driver of the SUV was transported to VCU Medical Center with undisclosed injuries.
A deputy with Hanover’s Sheriff’s Office said it was “truly unfortunate” timing for the tree to collapse at the same time both vehicles were passing by in a 45-55 mph zone.
Police are not releasing either of the two victim’s identities at this time.
